Follow up on Iernut municipality’s new housing blocks - From shanty to social housing
Iernut municipality was supported by the ROMACT Programme between 2017 and 2018 to improve the housing conditions in the community. With ROMACT support, the Community Action Group and the Municipality finalized an Action Plan for Roma Inclusion that was adopted by the Local Council in November 2017.
ROMACT experts supported municipal staff to prepare project proposals but also ensured the consultation process with vulnerable community members to ensure the success of the projects. Now, in 2024, the social housing units planned became very concrete since the structural work is finalized and the finishing work is well under way. An new neighborhood with amenities has risen from the ground, allowing vulnerable, marginalized families who benefited from the Programme to have a salubrious home and a fresh start.
